The organizational meeting of the
North Carolina Association Medical Staff Services (NCAMSS) was held in
Fayetteville on November 4, 1987 and was sponsored by Cape Fear Valley
Medical Center. Twelve people attended this initial meeting with
representatives from Fayetteville, Raleigh, Elizabethtown, Wilmington,
Lumberton, Asheville and Durham. Initially, it was the intent of those
coordinating this initial meeting to establish a local chapter, however,
based on the overwhelming interest from those who attended it was decided
to pursue the establishment of a statewide organization.
The second meeting of the NCAMSS was held on
January 12, 1988 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Medical Staff Services
Professionals from all hospitals in the state were issued an invitation
to attend. The response to the establishment of a state organization was
very positive and by November 1988 the NCAMSS had approximately fifty
(50) members.
Since its beginning, the NCAMSS has offered
one-day educational conferences and networking sessions on a quarterly
basis. These continue to be well received and well attended. In May 1990
the NCAMSS held its first regional annual conference in Asheville. These
regional annual 2-3 day conferences have continued to be held each year
since.
The NCAMSS has grown to a membership in excess of
150 members and continues its efforts to meet the educational and
networking needs of Medical Staff Service Professionals and Provider
Credentialing Specialists from across the state of North Carolina as
well as its members from Virginia and South Carolina. |
